JUNEAU & KETCHIKAN -
FIRST LEGO Programming Camps

Whether you're a beginner or an expert, there's a robotics camp for you. If you're a beginner, you'll learn how to use LEGO Mindstorms software to make the robot move, turn and use the light, sound, touch and other sensors. If you've had experience programming with LEGO Mindstorms and understand move blocks and sensors, you'll want to take the more advanced workshop. Click on "Beginners" or "Advanced" to register for the camp in your location. Questions about which camp is right for you? Contact Becca Parks at 523-2334, rparks@jedc.org.

FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Robotics Training for Students offered by Alaska Space Grant Program
One week day camp on the UAF campus, Fairbanks, AK
June 25-29, Monday thru Friday, 8-5pm
This module will cover the mechanical, electrical and software (LabVIEW) aspects of building and programming a Lego Tetrix robot to compete in the Alaska FTC competitions. This will be a hands-on course from the beginning to the end.
Mechanical topics covered will include gearing, torque and speed, four-bar linkages and over-center mechanisms and chassis design (stability versus turning). Electrical topics covered will include dc motor characteristics, encoders, servos, sensors and controllers. Software topics will cover controlling all of the above with LabVIEW.
The cost of the camp is $300 plus a $25 registration fee. Space is limited, so your registration fee will not be charged unless you are accepted.
Instructor: Michael Backus
Michael has taught advanced robotics at ASRA for many years. Michael teaches FLL and FTC as classes and coaches robotics teams in the Matsu school disctrict. Michael has a lot of fun with robots, Legos, computers and phones, hacking and combining them in new and fun ways.

Robotics Specialists offered by the Challenger Center of Alaska in Kenai
Grades 5th - 8th, July 30th - August 3rd. Kenai, AK.
Roll on into robot science as your child learns to design, build and program robots. A hands-on experience with robotics will provide your child with the rewards and excitement of learning and building robots. Kids will learn to problem solve, program, build and work together, learn how astronauts live and use robotics in space. Campers will work individually and in teams as they learn about the history of robotics, experiment building and programing of robots. This and more will prepare the campers for their final mission to the Moon or Mars. Camp begins 9am and ends 5pm, Monday – Friday. Lunch will be provided.
